Lassègue Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2018 — A Showcase of Right Bank Excellence
Immerse yourself in the sophistication of Bordeaux’s Right Bank with Lassègue Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2018 — a wine that seamlessly blends old-world elegance with modern precision. This remarkable vintage captures the essence of the estate’s unique terroir, the passion of its stewards, and the time-honored craft that defines Saint-Émilion’s most distinguished wines.
A Vineyard Blessed with Sun and Stone
Château Lassègue sits at the western edge of Saint-Émilion, perched on gentle south and southwest-facing hillsides. These slopes, blessed with generous sunshine, and clay-limestone soils lend the wine its signature depth, minerality, and balance. Many of the estate’s vines are over 50 years old, producing grapes of exceptional concentration and natural complexity.
A Family Legacy of Craftsmanship
Renowned winemaker Pierre Seillan, together with his family, brings a meticulous “micro-cru” approach to Château Lassègue. Each vineyard block is tended and vinified separately, allowing every parcel to contribute its distinct expression. This attention to detail ensures the final blend showcases the estate’s full aromatic and textural range.
The 2018 vintage is a blend of about 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. This composition highlights Merlot’s plush fruit, Cabernet Franc’s aromatic lift and structure, and a subtle backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon for depth.
A Vintage Defined by Balance
The 2018 growing season offered near-perfect conditions: abundant sunshine tempered by cool nights and timely rainfall, producing grapes with excellent ripeness and freshness. Following careful hand-harvesting and sorting, fermentation took place in small lots to capture each varietal’s best qualities. The wine then rested in 60% new French oak barrels for approximately 12 months, adding polish and complexity without overshadowing the fruit.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep, vibrant ruby with violet reflections, hinting at both youthful energy and aging potential.
Aroma: Inviting notes of ripe black cherry, wild raspberry, and plum mingle with hints of violet, baking spice, and a touch of earthy minerality.
Palate: Full-bodied and velvety, showing layers of juicy dark fruits, licorice, and a refined touch of graphite. Silky tannins provide structure, while a bright vein of acidity keeps the finish fresh and lifted. Subtle oak nuances of vanilla and clove round out the palate without dominating it.
Finish: Long and harmonious, leaving lingering impressions of dark berry compote and gentle spice.
Perfect Pairings
Lassègue Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2018 is a versatile food wine, complementing a wide range of fine dishes:

Roasted lamb with rosemary and garlic
-
Prime rib or filet mignon with a red wine reduction
-
Mushroom risotto or herb-crusted pork tenderloin
-

Serve at around 60°F (16°C). Decanting for about an hour before serving allows its aromatic layers to fully unfold.
